The Tories have attacked the government's decision to apply VAT on spectacles.

They dubbed the move a £20 "stealth tax" on those who require glasses. The move, which comes into effect in June, will hit the poorest hardest, the opposition claimed.

William Hague dismissed the entire statement as "a cynical election budget".
